Everyone knows the importance of staying hydrated, but not enough people think about what the quality of the drinking water inside their own home is. We take for granted that the water we get from our taps is perfectly fine for us to drink and is free of contaminants and impurities. While you can install water softener systems and water filtration systems to help make sure your home drinking water is pure and safe to drink, there are ways to find out if your water is safe for drinking before you install safeguards.

Talk to Your Provider

One of the first things to do when checking on the safety of your water is to consult with the water treatment company that handles your water. They can provide you with detailed reports about the water coming into your home.

Research

Once you have the report that will have all of the potential impurities and contaminants in your drinking water listed, you can do some homework on that the proper protocol is to deal with the specific contaminants. Different filtration systems will have better results eliminating different minerals, chemicals, or contaminants.

Keep an Eye on Your Water

Keep an eye on your home’s drinking water, and have an idea of what it normally looks, smells and tastes like. This way you will be able to tell when something is slightly off and maybe the water should be tested. While water that is slightly discoloured (orange, brown, or blue) is common, you should know what your water looks like normally. Water that is very cloudy can mean there is an excess of minerals in your water that should be filtered out.

Know When to Test

There are lots of ways in which you can test your own water at home, which even includes noticing a different smell, taste or colouring of it. However, if you suspect your water needs to be tested, it is best to call in a team of professionals in order to get specific results and data so that you can get the best solution for your specific needs.

This post was written by Kristian D’An, owner and water expert at Eco Water Solutions of Florida. Eco Water Solutions is a Tampa water softeners company. They offer whole home water solutions such as softeners, whole home water filtration systems, and reverse osmosis systems. Their focus is to provide Floridians with safe and clean water throughout the home.
